Do You Sleep Enough?

Happy Monday! This week is sleep awareness week, if you are like me and love your sleep, you will want to know some facts and tips on having a great night sleep!

An article written by the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School, gave some great information on the benefits of sleep and the risks of not getting enough sleep.
First, let’s see the potential risks of not getting enough sleep:

  1. Anxiety
  2. Inability to focus
  3. Increase risk of obesity
  4. Increase risk of diabetes
  5. Increase risk of cardiovascular disease
  6. Decrease in immune function
  7. Hormone imbalance

These not only form from not getting enough sleep, but you could develop these risks if you are constantly waking up during the night and do not get a sold 8 hours.

Now, let’s look at the benefits of sleeping well:

  1. More productive
  2. Better focus
  3. Increase in cell and tissue recovery
  4. Muscle growth and protein synthesis only restore during sleep
  5. People who sleep tend to eat healthier
  6. Increase in metabolism
  7. HAPPIER!

As you can see, sleep has many benefits towards your health and overall better living. So if you suffer from sleep apnea, or you just do not get enough sleep call your doctor to see what your options are to avoid those health risks.
