New Year, New Resolution!

Are you like many other people and set the same New Year resolution every year to “lose weight”, “exercise more” or “eat healthier”, but then let it slip a few months in… And repeat the cycle the following New Year? Well, I have a new resolution you can try that will help you with those goals but be more fun! It also helps support your local community.

If you haven’t heard yet, you need to get in the loop about Lubbock’s inaugural Mayors Marathon around the loop. What better way to encourage yourself to eat healthier and get in better shape than to train for a run? Now, for those of you who are not avid runners don’t freak out, because the Mayors Marathon will have a full marathon, a half marathon and a 5K! Now we don’t stop there, if you have a group of friends who want to try a marathon relay, relay legs are another option. We have it all!

Running is an amazing form of exercise. It improves cardiovascular health, builds muscle, burns loads of calories and can actually be fun! Running, fun? I know it sounds crazy, but trust me I was one of those people who hated running. I started it not too long ago to spice up my exercise regimen. I also learned in a few exercise classes how beneficial it is towards your health. So I dragged my feet a few weeks and slowly incorporated it into my weekly routine, and soon after, I began to enjoy my runs and realized that I could run longer distances than I thought I could. After my morning runs, I feel so refreshed, energized, and motivated to tackle my day, and if I run in the evening, they destress me from a busy day.

With the right training and motivation from family, friends and your community, running can be fun! It may take some time to enjoy your weekly or daily runs, but like everything else in life, you have to “get through the hard part in order to get to the good stuff”.

There is no better new resolution you can do than to start training for a marathon, half marathon or 5K? It can help you lose weight, exercise more, AND motivate you to eat healthier! But, enough with the small talk… What are you waiting for? Go to our website and sign up to run now! Then start your New Year resolution that you won’t quit!

And if you really just are not a runner, we have many volunteer opportunities! We need and love our volunteers just as much as our runners!

Happy New Year!
